The centrepiece of the refurbishment and redesign of these two office buildings in Baker Street, London, is a dynamically stepped-down glass atrium. In creating it, generous, uninterrupted workspaces have been formed for an international communications group.

The four-storey glazed space was inserted in an intermediate courtyard and links the original building, erected in 1904, with an extension structure dating from 1936. This fully glazed atrium opens itself to the surrounding office storeys and serves as a meeting point and place of casual encounter.

The large amounts of daylight it admits into the interior ensure a bright, clear and stimulating working atmosphere in what are deep and densely occupied office areas. The double glazing consists of unframed, low-e-coated glass with load-bearing adhesive fixings and with a specially developed mesh inlay embedded in the inner pane of laminated safety glass.
