In the old city of Barcelona, the architects have redesigned an apartment with a room height of 4,5 m and a base area of 34 m2. The flat is divided by a load-bearing wall into two areas of similar size. The entrance is via the communally used kitchen.
To offer greater privacy, the second living space is divided into different levels with only indirect visual links. The upper level, extending over half the area, provides a dressing room and a realm for withdrawal. On a small, somewhat higher platform, there is space for a double bed. The stairs are a combined construction, consisting of a sheet-steel element fixed to the wall and a number of wooden steps integrated in storage room at the base. In this way, optimum use is made of the limited space available.
