Until just a few years ago, the ruins of the Maison Koeppel loomed out from the centre of Dehlingen, a village of 400 inhabitants in the northwest of the French Alsace region. In 2001, when a barn at the rear of the former mayor’s residence burnt down, some residents in the village wanted to demolish the ruins.
