Australian cosmetics company Aēsop is synonymous with distinctive product design. In May the brand opened a “signature store“ in Singapore that features an opulent and gleaming brass entrance. For the interiors Snøhetta referenced the history of the site — a former nutmeg plantation — and the shop’s location in a shopping centre basement.

The metaphor of an “upside-down“ wood and the choice of materials, colours and design language also allude to the genius loci. The walls are painted the colour of mace while thin timber battens hang from the symbolic “forest floor“ ceiling suggesting a series of tree trunks and creating a gentle wave that accentuates the furniture islands. Lights discreetly blend in between the battens. Nine slender “columns“ created out of four brass tubes are suspended between the dark painted ceilings and sisal flooring and fitted with circular shelves on which the products are displayed.
