The crèche closes a gap in the urban fabric near the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. The adjacent Théâtre de la Colline utilizes part of the new building. The challenge was to reconcile the different interests on a long, narrow site. The architects proposed 3 buildings connected with courtyards. The theatre administration is located on the 2 upper levels of the street-side building. The day-care centre below is linked to the two-storey building in the middle via glazed corridors. Farthest back is a playhouse. Because the buildings step down toward the southwest and the glazing is extensive, the spaces are bright. The facade toward the street mediates between the theatre and the neighbouring neo-classicist building.
