Is it possible for a building to communicate the claim of an institution to be a trendsetter in the finance sector, to offer its staff pleasant, inspiring working conditions and to create a lively sense of urban flair, even if its location lies between the Zeppelinfeld and the sports stadium, somewhat removed from the centre of Nuremberg? The competition proposals by the architects baumschlager eberle with rounded quoins – a reference to the corporate design of the easyCredit institute – already convey a sense of dynamic quality, of transparency and a verdant environment in which to work.

One aspect to which the 90 x 50 m office block gives no clue from the outside, however, is the interior planning by evolution design. It was an attempt to downscale the vitality and creative impulses of an entire city to a single open-plan office landscape for a staff of 600 – a kind of indoor theme park. Workplaces with ample tables that are adjustable in height and with two computer screens are available for 75 per cent of the staff. The hot-desking concept is based on the principle of first come, first served. The 1,300 m² extra area realized in this way was used to create a working environment that meets the needs of communication, concentration, creativity and relaxation far more effectively than the classical office desk.
