A further structure has been added to the landscaped grounds of the Wittenstein company, which have existed in Igersheim since the 1990s. In this new complex, the leading creator of mechatronic propulsion systems has united development, production and marketing activities beneath a single roof. Here, a culture of innovation exists. The working processes – from the initial idea to the finished product – are laid out along the main axis, so that all team members involved in the added-value chain are located close to each other, and development and production take place within a radius of 30 metres beneath a single roof. Mobility is a central factor: desks, partitions, storage units and caddies containing documents are on castors. Access for staff and customers is via a light-flooded foyer, the so-called “marketplace”, which also serves as a location for exhibitions and other events.

Flanked by gallery levels and atria, this area is distinguished by spatial interfaces and visual links between employees. Running along the western facade is an?18-metre-deep development zone with mobile workplaces. Its generous studio atmosphere is also the outcome of its double-height. On the outside, it is distinguished by its glazed facade with characteristic sunscreen panels. Offices and conference spaces are grouped on two floors about the accessible, central courtyards, and directly adjoining these is the production zone.
