For almost 30 years now, the team of the Norwegian architectural office Snøhetta has remained true to its democratic, collective principles. In addition to its large offices in Oslo and New York, it has established a practice in Innsbruck, where a familiar form of address between team members is a natural part of office culture.

One of the founder members of Snøhetta, Kjetil Thorsen, who has lived for many years in Austria, explains the philosophy pursued by this office. Underlying its open, creative approach is an effective, minutely planned method of work, which is subject to constant scrutiny and reinvention. The conceptual ideas originate in an interdisciplinary process in which roles are exchanged to avoid automatism and to overcome barriers.
