Cecil Balmond joined Arup in 1968. A structural engineer and writer, his commitment to architecture and design has led to many successful collaborations with architects, including James Stirling, Rem Koolhaas, Alvaro Siza, Toyo Ito, Arata Isozaki, Enric Miralles and Daniel Libeskind. Balmond is the author of the book “Informal”, which centres around the need for structure to act as a catalyst in architecture, extending the role of engineering by using patterns, mathematical reasoning and advanced geometry as a creative approach.Cecil Balmond was interviewed by Christian Brensing in London.
