A typical feature of villages in this part of the Grisons are the barns and cowsheds with stone roofs and corner columns, and wall areas filled with rounded timbers. The present barn has now been converted into a dwelling house. The historical structure was left intact and complemented with concrete elements that frame the ground floor openings. Nonreinforced concrete was used for the retaining walls that articulate the outdoor areas and also internally alongside the old stonework to form a hybrid structure. The materials were left largely in an untreated state, including the oak furnishings and the sawn oak boarding to the soffits. The effect of the exposed surfaces is heightened by the working precision.
