At first glance one would not guess that the green roofscape in the city park encloses a two-storey research and education centre. Situated near the border between Poland and the Czech Republic, the building serves as a platform for environmental topics. The aim was to arrive at a hybrid – part building, part landscape – whose polygonal roof form echoes the region’s hilly terrain.

With the aid of 3D modelling the architects designed a structure that acts as abstract model. The entrance to this new facility is right across from the existing administration centre. The glazed facade in the west and two cuts in the roof break open the otherwise solid contour and direct sufficient daylight into the spaces.
