Since 2016, following 14 years’ research, complete prefabricated bridges have been built out of CPC (Carbon Prestressed Concrete) panels. Because the carbon is prestressed, only a minimum amount of the material is required as reinforcement. Carbon, an efficient, light-weight, sustainable but expensive material, is therefore capable of competing with steel reinforcement.
