The house designed by Zurich-based architect Nadia Vontobel for her parents in the municipality of Poschiavo south of St. Moritz is a family project aimed at adaptation to climate change. The client and father, an energy sector professional, contributed his expertise in the field of photovoltaics to the project. All facade and roof surfaces are covered in photovoltaic modules, with the exception of the windows, the rooftop loggia and the recessed entrance area facing northward. During the first year of operation they yielded six times as much energy as consumed by the house. Even from November through January, yields were three times higher than the in-house demand. The high degree of energy efficiency of the house is decisive for this result, certified according to the Swiss Minergie-P and Minergie-A standards.
