The former opera workshops in the centre of Berlin have become the new location of the University of Performing Arts Ernst Busch. Where scenographers and carpenters once created stage sets for major theatres in the capital, 240 students today learn the disciplines of drama, contemporary puppetry, choreography and stage direction.

Previously these departments were spread over four locations inside and outside the city, which made interdisciplinary work difficult. Ortner & Ortner have rehabilitated the existing concrete skeleton structure dating from the 1950s and extended it at its southern end by two new volumes.
