Motivated by educational and environmental considerations, the new building was so designed as to organically reconcile the new architecture with the old architecture of the town's centre a stone's throw away. The traffic-free Karlstraße facing the inviting transparent facade of the round library-and auditorium building as well as the glazed passageway through to Kolpingstraße, melt into an ambience that reveals circumspect town planning, and, in addition achieves the merging of the buildings of almost heterogenic variety.
