A productive cooperation between established firms, small startups, event spaces and gastronomic functions instead of the monoculture of large office areas – this is the concept of the first Factory coworking space that opened its doors in Berlin in the 2010s. Since then, the initiators rehabilitated three different sites in Germany for this purpose. Following the idea of co-founder Simon Schaefer, the fourth new facility is Factory Lisbon: a historic listed former pasta and cookie factory in the district of Beato, east of Lisbon's inner city. The roughly 200 m long and 11 m wide building was erected in the 1970s and served the Portuguese army for the supply of its troops. It belonged to a larger industrial food production  complex.
