Kassel University was founded in 1971 and now extends over eight locations within the city and outside. For the past ten years, it has sought to bring together more and more institutions in the north of the city centre.

This goal formed the basis of a master plan by raumzeit architects that proposed the extension of the existing urban campus northwards on the site of a former weaving mill. The new faculty building for architecture, urban and landscape planning is the latest expression of this — though certainly not the last.
