Completed in 1993, the scheme dates back to a winning entry in a competition held in 1986. The development comprises a new administration building, and the existing Old Mint, erected in 1864 and now a listed building. The latter has been refurbished and converted. The complex houses the foreign ministry's development office, providing space and facilities for roughly 200 civil servants. In the former mint are a small library, seminar rooms and rest and recreation areas. In 1962, when Alvar Aalto's Enso Gutzeit Building was erected on the quay of Helsinki harbour, it was expected that the mint would be demolished.
