In this exhibition and events building with its evocative name questions about the future of our society are to be addressed. The new building lies between the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Spreebogen, and the Humboldthafen.

An area close to Berlin Central Station that for many years was just wasteland is currently being developed: the kind of investor architecture that is sprouting out of the ground there could just as easily be in any other city in Germany. Only the elevated railway line running by to the north indicates that this is Berlin.

In this faceless, heterogeneous setting the glazed Futurium with its many raking angles and strongly sculptural form stands out. The building is unambiguously a foreign body, placed on an asphalted surface with a pattern of light-coloured dots.
