Appreciation of the building's significance is manifest in its classification as a historical monument. It was built during the years 1914 to 1923, and even at that time there was some forethought to cover the inner courtyard to expand the exhibition area as well as provide protection for the exhibits. It was not until 1989, however, that the idea was realized. It was of prime importance that the design was to interfere with the historic substance as little as possible.
