Renewable energies are still often thought of as being unreliable: according to critics, a secure, uninterrupted supply is impossible from these intermittent energy sources. Norvento, a Spanish company, has now taken up the challenge to prove critics wrong with its new headquarters in Lugo, northern Spain. The client has been planning and constructing wind, solar and bioenergy plants for over 30 years. Moreover, the company has experience in intelligently linking these energy sources to form so-called ‘micronets’.

Norvento’s intention with the new-build is to further expand this competence and open up a new field of business as a turnkey provider for zero-energy buildings. The new headquarters, situated around three kilometres outside the city centre, is not connected to the electricity or to the gas grid and therefore has to meet its complete energy requirements from renewable energy sources generated on site.
