For a long time, solid construction was the domain of mineral building materials like natural stone, brick and concrete. However, in recent years solid timber components have also garnered an increasing market share. Today, high-performance solid cross-laminated timber elements, made by gluing several layers of transversely stacked boards together, are available as both bending-stressed slabs and normally stressed panels.A spatial structure of wall panels and floor slabs allows a 5-m section of the house to overhang the driveway, despite the fact that large parts of the facade are glazed. On the south side of the house, the only solid wall element lies along the large bedroom, supported solely at its outermost corner.
