Situated on the coast of Slovenia, these two blocks were realized as part of a state lowcost housing programme to promote home ownership for families and young couples. With their flexible, economical layouts and efficient use of space, the two almost identical blocks are five storeys high and contain 30 one- to four-room dwellings each. The staggered arrangement of the loggias projecting from the facade and their splayed top and bottom faces create a bold, three-dimensional honeycomb-like structure – an effect that is augmented by the coloured sunblinds. The loggias provide a welcome extension of the tight living space and can be used like an additional room for much of the year.
