The first project to be completed as part of the new leisure and sports centre “Am Eisteich” (At the Ice Pond) is an ice rink with a facilities building and entrance pavilion. A steel skeleton roof structure about 72 m long, 40 m wide and more than 10 m high protects the ice surface from the weather. Lenticular trussed beams with a height of up to 3.70 m combine with the columns to form two-hinged frames. At a spacing of 7.50 m, these lend the structure transverse rigidity and at the same time facilitate a simple attachment of the column bases to the reinforced concrete foundation beam.
