The programme for this institute embraces four more or less equally large areas determined by their individual functions, such as space for laboratories and research, for geology, biology and atmospheric and oceanographic sciences. Then there is an area to accomodate the staff together with library, lecture room and finally the provision of space for storekeeping, workshops and logistics as well as rooms for mechanical services. A major part of the functional spaces was placed in the inner building as they could be artificially lighted. Therefore, relevant depth of the building suggested itself, which involved the advantage of fully exploiting the plot.
