To improve the working conditions and provide more space for the fire brigade, the architects of the Zolling power station near Munich made a comprehensive analysis of the location. The one chosen offered optimal sunshine and shade conditions. The slanting northern facade permits glare-free lighting of the workplace, reduces the energy requirements for the illumination, and leads to a considerable decrease in heat radiation. In summer, the sunrays are almost completely reflected and the incidence of daylight is optimised by the rigid light-deflection slats.
