A construction area winds its way around the hills of Montecorvo and La Fonsalada in Spain (3). Some aspects are reminiscent of concepts from the 1940s to 1970s, but MVRDV’s plans for this new district play a pioneering role in the urban construction of the future. The 3,000 housing units are not scattered over the landscape but instead take up only 10% of the total area. Photovoltaic parks and wind power plants guarantee a CO2-neutral supply of energy.Logroño-Montecorvo is an example of the “eco-cities” currently being planned. In an age of climate change, sustainable cities have become conceivable.
