The house for a family of four designed by BLAF Architecten is located in a 1960s-era single family residential development in Asse on the outskirts of Brussels. It differs from its neighbours not only due to its low energy consumption (14.1 kWh/m2a for heating and hot water), but also its unusually open character.
On the ground floor, the perimeter walls are made of 30 cm strong reinforced concrete with 24 cm XPS insulation on the exterior covered by an adhesive waterproof EPDM sealant layer.
