The “Matterhorn Glacier Paradise” tourist centre on the Klein Matterhorn is the highest viewing point in Europe reachable by cable car. To accommodate the annual influx of around 550,000 visitors, a new building for the site has been planned by Peak Architekten (Zermatt/Zürich) and Ingenieurbüro Lauber IWISA. It conforms to the Swiss Minergie-P standard, for buildings where total energy consumption for heating, hot water and ventilation is less than 40 kWh/m2a.
