Erected in the 16th century, the Los Aligues building in Girona was already used as a university a century later. After serving various other purposes in the course of its life, it finally stood empty, and by the time the rehabilitation work commenced it has become a ruin. The scheme proposed the restoration of the original L-shaped layout to accommodate the main administrative functions of the university. The old chapel was to be used as an information centre for students. A new tract was planned to close the southern side of the courtyard, which has the character of a public square.
