This extension of the Folkwang Museum replaces a structure dating from 1983. The entrance court is reached via a broad open staircase and is screened from traffic noise by a glass facade. Three further courtyards form open spaces between the six cubic volumes of the complex, which is linked to the listed existing museum. All exhibition areas are united on a single level by means of a plinth structure and can be naturally lit from above.
