The second of four parks planned for the new Zurich North centre, with roughly 5,000 residents and 12,000 workplaces, comprises a hall filled with and covered with plants. More than 100m long and 17m high, the steel structure forms a three-dimensional “urban arbour”. Between the inner and outer planted skins is a route consisting of steel stairs and walkways, with wood-paved loggias cantile vered out internally. From the rooftop sundeck, visitors have a view over the new part of the city. The peaceful garden spaces are ideal for relaxation, but they can also be used for stage performances and concerts. A pool of water and seating facilities are set within an area of green glass chippings. Here, stainless-steel cables extend up to the roof as trellises for climbing plants. The background lighting shining through the green walls ensures that the structure remains visible even at night.
