The unused flat roof over a 1960s’ parking block in the suburbs of Paris has been upgraded to a public space with plantings and seating. Let into openings in the roof are large concrete containers for plane trees. The deck is finished with timber planks and simple washed concrete paving. To free the area in front of the garage for pedestrian use, the external access ramps were incorporated in the interior. The new facade screen, consisting of offset vertical ipe scantlings that allow the ingress of light and air, extends up to the roof deck in the form of a balustrade.
