This gleaming white horizontal structure, supported by two rectangular piers, has an unexpected complexity. Not only does it change direction twice in its 220-metre length; there are also two circular piers that will one day be overgrown and merge with the vegetation below. Since its underside and the adjoining flat pier surfaces are painted black, the bridge has an elegant, sharp-edged look. A hybrid construction was chosen, using steel, concrete and timber. The two linear steel girders are linked by I-beams, while the steel casing to the middle piers acts as permanent shuttering to the concrete cores. The balustrades, with azobé cladding internally, create a space of exceptional quality and physical security.
