It is almost a hundred years since a new school was erected in Aarhus, the second-largest city in Denmark. Conceptual and design considerations for Frederiksbjerg Comprehensive School were, therefore, particularly intense.

After many years of planning and construction, a “school in motion” was realized for children between the ages of 6 and 15. The facilities provided go far beyond those required by the basic Danish curriculum and seek to incorporate sport every day in school activities. Everywhere in the complex there are places for gymnastics, climbing, running and jumping; and normal teaching no long takes place in classrooms alone, but in secluded corners and group rooms, on stepped seating and even in the corridors.
