Barbara Buser graduated in architecture from ETH Zurich in 1979 and then worked in Africa for 10 years. In 1996, she and Klara Kläusler founded the first-ever Bauteilbörse [building parts exchange] in Basel. With Eric Honegger she has initiated and realized numerous conversion projects. At the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale, her practice in situ received the Global Gold Award from the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction for the K.118 project in Winterthur.
With her practice in situ, Barbara Buser is committed to circular construction. The Swiss architect seeks simple solutions to reuse salvaged building components in her projects.
