The 1980s railway station building in Rennes had proven to be an interfering barrier between the urban quarters separated by the TGV railway line. It was therefore demolished and replaced with a new build.
The new station is designed as an artificial hillside rising from street level at the edge of the old town to a new main entrance at the level of the old building over the platforms.
