The 610 m tall antenna tip of the Canton Tower is even taller than the Toronto TV tower and is thus the world‘s tallest TV and observation tower. An elliptical ground level shape and a rotated second elliptical form at a height of 450 m are connected via 24 steel tubes. The “feminine” waistline that gives the tower its elegant character is, thus, almost coincidental. The tubes were filled with concrete in order to increase stability and enable fire protection after multiple stories were precisely fixed in position. Within the transparent steel mesh, 37 stories in sets of different height and including rotating restaurants, view platforms, and 3D movie theatres are suspended and continuously connected via a an elliptical concrete tube that houses elevators, two emergency elevators, staircases, and ducts.
