Fruit growing has a long tradition in Pajottenland, a region located west of Brussels. Yet large greenhouses are rare – especially the kind built by Jo Taillieu Architecten, with a café and conference rooms, where even the local council meets.
The new Paddenbroek Education Centre serves the community of Gooik, a Belgian village of 1,800 inhabitants. The centre is for locals and tourists alike, and showcases the region’s natural landscape, agriculture, and cultural identity. Located about 1 km from the village centre, it also integrates the remains of an abandoned fruit farm.
