Jean Nouvel’s Louvre in Abu Dhabi is reminiscent of the architecture of antiquity. The design and the concept of a universal museum foster the ideal of a harmonious global culture.

“Above all, I wanted to create a meeting place, an Arabian agora crowned by ... a dome as a metaphor for heaven.” In view of the 10 years it took to realize this concept, Jean Nouvel seems surprisingly calm at the opening of the Louvre Abu Dhabi in November 2017.

“The development should nevertheless remain mystical and cast a spell on us.” The external realm beneath the dome does indeed exert a magical attraction, casting its spell on visitors.
