The Swiss chalet is clearly a rich source of inspiration for alienation and camouflage effects. In photographer Christian Schwager’s book ‘Falsche Chalets’ (Fake Chalets) we learnt of the Swiss military bunkers that are disguised as residential homes.
Now US artist Doug Aitken has appropriated the same building type and, as part of the Elevation 1049 art project, placed a mirror-clad chalet on a valley meadow in the Bernese Oberland region of the Alps.
