Munich is an extremely dense city with the highest rents in Germany. Since land resources in the city centre have become scarce, homes are now being developed in many different ways simultaneously by filling gaps, extending roofs and constructing small, new buildings into existing courtyards.
The development completed by Heim Kuntscher Architekten just north of the city centre is a pertinent example for this type of densification. Three years ago, the courtyard at Zieblandstrasse was occupied by single-storey garages. In the meantime, they have been removed to create space for a three-storey apartment building.
