The owners of a small, single family residential home in the quarter of Wipkingen in Zurich decided to demolish and replace it with a new structure when a seven stories tall retirement home was built on a neighbouring plot. Most of all, the new home was supposed to be taller than the existing one – not only to prevent the neighbour’s building mass from overpowering it, but also to enable views towards the city across the rooftops of the surrounding residential houses.
