Wood surfaces characterise the residence built by a couple from Berlin for their retirement in the small community of Oberreute in the Allgäu. On the exterior, spruce siding and wood panels with blue-green glazed finish provide protection from the weather. In the interior, cross laminated timber defines the impression of spaces. It was clear from the beginning that the house was supposed to be a modern timber structure that combines traditional materials from the mountain region and a clear language of forms. The clients found inspiration in a house by Studio Yonder that they discovered during a walk through the area. The decision was made early on to commission the young office from Stuttgart to create their new home.
