The primitive hut-like vernacular building is constructed with an economy and an ad hoc ingenuity familiar in the vernacular kind of habitation which predominates along the rugged landscape of the Maritimes, the eastern seaboard of Canada. The architect's design for the Rubadoux studio - a workplace and summer house for an artist - is quite literally a big room on the edge of the ocean with much of the simplicity and ruggedness of neighbouring vernacular sheds.
