Shorter transport routes seem hardly possible: The material used for the loam bricks the load bearing walls of David Reffo’s school building in Geneva’s Les Charmilles district are made of originates in the Parc Geisendorf construction pit. A win-win situation: CO2 emissions caused by delivering construction material on the site and long truck trips required to dispose of excavation material were both avoided. In the 1960s Georges Brera and Paul Waltenspühl built the Geisendorf primary school in the park of the same name, creating a loosely connected ensemble.
