Located in Silvertown in East London, the project demonstrates that low-budget housing can be both attractive and innovative. This manifests itself above all in the facade, which consists of a yellow, transparent fibreglass rain screen – corrugated horizontally on one face and vertically on the other – laid over an aluminium membrane and with recycled wire elements by the artist Vinita Hassard to the rear. The layout of the 69 m2 four-person dwelling is unusual as well. The spacious hall with fitted cupboards can be used as a workroom, play space or utilities area. While the relatively small living room is a refuge and place of relaxation, the kitchen is an amply dimensioned central space for the whole family.
