“Develop for the municipality of Rotis a space for the summer that will provide room for at least two people. Find means of creating this space within a week and at a cost of less than DM 5,000.” Roughly a hundred students in the basic course at the University of Technology, Berlin, participated in this design project. The event was held on the estate of the late Otl Aicher in the Allgäu and hosted by his son Florian Aicher, who made the site available for the realization of four projects. One of the groups constructed a spherical dome, using plastic bottles as a building material. Cohesion was achieved with a supporting membrane, to which each of the 3,000 bottles was screw fixed. The entrance opening is stabilized with a hard fibreboard ring.
