In line with the motto “less is more”, many designers have adopted as a guiding principle the achievement of high functionality through comparatively modest means. In a sports hall in Haiming, a small village on the German-Austrian border, an architectural language that merges frugality, restraint and engineering spirit successfully reflects this goal. Proven building approaches such as timber construction, a gable roof, trusses, galvanised truss plates, translucent polycarbonate panels and panelised prefabrication combine to create a structure that ennobles the necessary and transforms it into simple elegance.
