The Geoffroy-Guichard football stadium in Saint-Étienne, eastern France, was opened in 1931 and has been continually rebuilt and enlarged since then. In the run-up to the UEFA European Championship 2016, it was completely refurbished and its capacity increased from 35,000 to 42,000. Architects Chaix & Morel et Associés working with contractor Léon Grosse won the design competition.
